Don’t be afraid of challenging projects! With the help of wooden trusses, you can easily create a roof of any complexity.

In this article, we will try to inspire you to create a beautiful roof that will suit your home.

We will consider:
•  Gable roof;
•  Four-pitched (hip, hipped) roof;
•  Pitched roof;
•  Multi-pinch roof;
•  Flat roof;
•  Roof of any shape (криволінійні поверхні);
•  Combined roof;
•  Mansard roof.

Dvoskhiliy (dvoskatnyi) dakh

Laconic and beautiful. It belongs to the pitched roof types. It can have an attic or an attic. It is considered to be the simplest roof in terms of construction and operation, and any roofing material is suitable for it..

The gable roof for the attic floor is made of ceramic tiles.

It is convenient to place a solar collector or panels on a gable roof. Snow does not accumulate on it (of course, if the angle of inclination is not less than the minimum prescribed in the instructions for a particular roofing material).

The gable roof with slopes of different lengths is designed to accommodate solar panels.

Installation of the gable roof frame is extremely simple: for a 10x12m house, an experienced team will assemble the truss system from wooden trusses in a few hours, and a team of relatives and neighbours will take 5-8 hours.

A gable mansard roof with ceramic tiles. Its complexity was in its placement on the log house. Wooden logs can “slide” relative to each other, so it was important to calculate the connections of the rafter system taking this movement into account.

Hipped roof

Hipped roofs include hip, semi-hip and hipped types. This type of roof is usually used to create an attic or an attic.

HIP ROOFS are well suited for the construction of an attic with windows in the ceiling. The main rule when installing skylights is to – read the installation instructions and follow the recommendations in the correct sequence.

We recommend a four-pitched roof with a sufficiently large pitch (20 degrees or more) to make it look good from the street, especially if the house has more than one floor, which will add to its expressiveness. No wonder they say that the roof is the fifth facade of the house. It is also important to make large enough eaves overhangs (from 0.5m) to make the roof look securely planted on the foundation.

An example of a hip roof with a pronounced ridge, in this case a roof without an attic, despite the high pitch. The roof material is Gerard composite tiles.

We do not have a classic semi-hipped roof among our works, so we publish photos of the roof part and axonometric models.

Semi-hipped roof of the Danish type.

A tiled roof is a roof in which all the planes are shaped like triangles, and it looks like a pyramid from above. It is well suited to one-storey buildings with a square plan.

Hip roof with an attic space, under bituminous tiles. In this case, the roof has a small ridge element, so it is very similar to a hipped roof.

Pitched roof

This type of roof is most often used for extensions, sheds, country houses or industrial buildings. If the roof is adjacent to a wall, it is important to make an airtight joint, and do not be lazy to cut a groove in the wall to properly set the joint strip.

MULTI-GABLE ROOF

A multi-pinch roof is also called a “birdhouse roof” or “birdhouse roof” among builders. They are mainly used to form an attic floor. In such an attic, the window is located in the wall, it is easy to approach it and look out, which is more difficult to achieve with a dormer window in the roof plane. The niche that forms inside the “forceps” can be turned into a cosy corner, and a wide window sill can be arranged there, where it is comfortable to sit.

The peculiarity of this roof is the span of about 8 metres without intermediate supports, as well as the load from the roofing material – BRAAS cement-sand tiles – 45kg/m2.

Flat roof

In fact, a roof cannot be completely flat. It must have an imperceptible slope for rainwater drainage. A flat roof is chosen when following a certain architectural style or creating additional space on the roof that will be used, such as a barbecue area. If the roof is not in use, you can make an imitation of a flat roof, as the architect did at one of our facilities. In this case, the sloping trusses are hidden behind a high eave.

Imitation of a flat roof due to the high eaves element

If the roof space is to be used, for example, as a summer terrace, a slope of at least 2% to the point of water runoff is required, as well as proper wall connections and drainage systems. In modern conditions, a flat roof is quite expensive to build and maintain and is suitable for a small number of developers.

Roof of any shape (with curved surfaces)

If the roof has bends, it is best to use flexible roofing materials (bituminous or composite tiles), and ceramic (certain types) or slate tiles can also be laid. Laying natural tiles on a curved surface requires high qualification of roofers, and you should not save on them.

Combined roof

It is a combination of different forms to create an interesting architectural composition. Such a roof requires good engineers who will correctly calculate and arrange the structural elements. It is also important to choose reliable roofers who like to solve complex problems.

Mansard roof

In this article, you have already seen mansards in almost every type of roof. A mansard roof can have a variety of shapes. When planning an attic floor, you need to understand that the floor space will be limited depending on the shape and angle of the roof. It is also important to know that the minimum height of the attic wall is 1.2 m (indoors, after finishing works), less than 0.9 m is necessary for convenient use of the area next to the wall.

* An attic wall is a low wall in the attic.
